Emergency Preparedness Guide

Sunday, February 14, 2010 at 4:30 p.m.

Today, a 4.5-magnitude earthquake was recorded in Tecate, Mexico. Just two weeks earlier, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck offshore in west of Rosarito, Mexico. The rumble was felt by many here in San Diego. Both of the quakes is a short 25 miles away.

Let's not forget about the Fires from October 2003 and then again in October 2007 where nine simultaneous fires burned throughout the county requiring the evacuation of 300,000 people and resulting in the loss of more than 1,800 homes and many other structures.

The damage in Port-au-Prince, Haiti from a 7.0-magnitude earthquake on January 12, 2010 caused an estimated 1.2 million people displaced by the earthquake.

Disasters such as these all happen with little time to react. We pulled together simple and common sense information from top sources such as Red Cross, San Diego County Office of Emergency Services (OES), CAL Fire and FEMA to provide you all the information you need to be informed, be prepared and remain safe. Check out our Emergency Preparedness Guide.
